Four things that take one afternoon and save you an emergency call in January.
Bleed the radiators
If a radiator is cold at the top and warm at the bottom, there is air inside. A radiator key is all you need to open the bleed valve.
Service the boiler
An annual service before the heating season keeps the warranty valid and lowers the chance of a breakdown in the coldest weeks.
Shut off outdoor taps
Close the inside valves for outdoor taps and drain the pipe. A frozen pipe can burst even inside the wall.
Check window seals
Candle test: if the flame leans near the window frame, the seal needs replacing.
